SignalRoom Helper is an optional companion that adds deeper hardware monitoring to SignalRoom.

Requires macOS 15 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later). The installer is signed by Rhys Ellwood and notarised by Apple.
The helper download is free. SignalRoom Pro is a separate App Store purchase, required to use the advanced monitoring features. Installing the helper does not purchase or unlock Pro.
Why is it a separate download?
Apps on the Mac App Store run inside Apple's App Sandbox. The sandbox keeps them from reading the Mac's temperature sensors, fan controllers and graphics counters directly, so SignalRoom can't read those on its own. SignalRoom Helper is a small background app that reads them outside the sandbox and passes only those readings to SignalRoom over a private connection on your Mac.
SignalRoom never downloads or installs the helper for you. You choose whether to install it, from this page, and SignalRoom works without it.
Install and connect
- Download and open
SignalRoomHelper.pkg. - Choose Continue, then Install. Approve with your Mac password or Touch ID if requested.
- Return to SignalRoom. The helper connects automatically under the same logged-in macOS account.
- Open Settings → Advanced to check the connection. Choose Check again if needed.
You do not need to create an account, enter an API key or disable macOS security settings. The helper starts on demand when SignalRoom needs it.
What it adds
On supported Macs, the helper supplies GPU utilisation, the full list of temperature sensors (each CPU performance and efficiency core, each GPU cluster, memory, airflow, palm rest, Wi-Fi and battery), drive temperatures, fan speeds, power readings, disk activity and battery detail. Media integration depends on supported players and their permissions. Availability depends on the Mac and macOS version; not every reading is exposed on every model. Macs without fans or a battery do not show those measurements.
With the helper, the menu bar can also show GPU Temperature, Fan Speed, Power Draw and Disk Activity as their own items, and Sensors can show the hottest CPU reading as well as the average.
The helper runs as your logged-in user, not as root. Measurements stay on your Mac. Release versions of the app and helper verify each other's signing identity before exchanging data. The helper does not unlock Pro or replace the App Store purchase.
SignalRoom works without it
CPU totals and per-core activity, memory, network, storage capacity, basic battery and Calendar do not need a helper. Pro AI analysis, history and customisation also work without it. Unavailable hardware measurements are shown honestly, without requiring installation.
Updating the helper
Install a newer version over the top of the old one: download it from this page and open it. The installer replaces the helper and restarts it, and SignalRoom reconnects on its own. Settings → Advanced shows the version that is connected.
Version 2.0.4 sends SignalRoom the full Sensors list, including drive temperatures, explains when macOS has blocked Now Playing, and installs an uninstaller beside the helper. Older helpers keep working with the current app; readings they don't provide show as unavailable. See What's New for earlier versions.
Connection help
If the connection is unavailable, confirm that installation completed, then quit and reopen SignalRoom. Open Settings → Advanced and choose Check again. The helper must run under the same macOS user as SignalRoom. If SignalRoom reports an incompatible helper, install the current download above.
Contact support if it still cannot connect; include the versions of SignalRoom, the helper and macOS. Do not send passwords, API keys or private usage logs.
Remove an installed helper
From version 2.0.4, open /Library/Application Support/SignalRoom Helper in Finder (Go → Go to Folder) and double-click Uninstall SignalRoom Helper. Terminal opens and asks for your Mac password, then removes the helper.
To remove an older helper by hand:
- Quit SignalRoom.
- Stop the helper. In Terminal, run
launchctl bootout gui/$(id -u)/com.woodenamethyst.signalroom.helper, or log out of macOS and back in. - In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder and move
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.woodenamethyst.signalroom.helper.plistand/Library/Application Support/SignalRoom Helperto the Bin. Approve with your Mac password or Touch ID if requested. - Optionally, remove the installer's record so macOS no longer lists the package: in Terminal, run
sudo pkgutil --forget com.woodenamethyst.signalroom.helper.pkg.
SignalRoom keeps working without the helper; advanced readings show as unavailable.
